Standard Business Sponsorship Approval
Employer Sponsorship (Australian Work Visa)
Service Description
Employers seeking to sponsor overseas workers must first obtain Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS) approval from the Australian Government, which remains valid for 5 years. This approval allows businesses to nominate overseas candidates for positions that cannot be filled locally. For businesses and organizations with a high volume of employee nominations, there is an option to become an Accredited Sponsor. Accredited sponsors enjoy special status, granting them SBS approval for up to 6 years. If you plan to sponsor employees on the Temporary Skill Shortage (482) visa, the Trainee Visa (407), or the Temporary Activity Visa (408), SBS approval is a necessary requirement. SBS Requirements: To obtain Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS) approval, your business must meet certain criteria, including operating lawfully, having no adverse records, and being financially sound. Overseas Businesses and SBS Approval: Overseas businesses can be considered for SBS approval if they have plans for Australian expansion or contractual obligations to carry out work in Australia, provided they are lawfully operating and registered in their home country. SBS Approval for New Businesses: New businesses can become standard business sponsors by demonstrating lawful operations through lease agreements, staff contracts, marketing, equipment purchases, or business bank statements, with assistance from our Registered Migration Agent. Eligibility for SBS Approval: Businesses of all sizes, including sole traders, educational institutes, and public companies, can apply for SBS approval for certain visas (482 or 408). However, not all entities are eligible for 407 sponsorship approval. Becoming an Accredited Sponsor: To become an accredited sponsor, businesses must meet specific criteria, which might include certain government agencies, companies with significant investments (<$50m) in Australia, or Australian Trusted Traders. Possible SBS Approval Refusal: Seeking professional advice is crucial, especially for first-time sponsors, as SBS approval applications can be declined due to various reasons, such as excessive overseas worker employment or weak financial standing. Benefits of SBS Approval: Obtaining SBS approval provides businesses with the advantage of quickly addressing labor shortages within their organization by sponsoring overseas workers. For a detailed understanding of your SBS obligations, consulting our Registered Migration Agent is recommended!
