Depending on the type of visa, you can include your partner in a pending application or submit a subsequent entrant application for them after the primary visa has been approved. - Adding a Partner to 482/457 Visa: A partner can be included in a 482 visa application or submitted later as a subsequent entrant. However, they cannot be added to a pending application. If you already hold a 457 visa, your partner can apply as a subsequent entrant. For both visa types, de facto partners must demonstrate at least six months of genuine cohabitation. Relationship registration cannot waive the six-month cohabitation requirement, as seen in some other visa types. For a 482 visa, the Government application fee remains the same, whether the primary applicant's occupation is on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) or the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). - Adding a Partner to 186, 187, 189, 190 Visa: You have the option to include your partner in the initial visa application or add them as a secondary applicant at any stage during the processing. To do so, you must provide evidence of a de facto relationship spanning 12 months or have your relationship registered. Simply being engaged does not suffice to waive this requirement. After the primary applicant is granted Permanent Residency (PR), it's no longer possible to add a partner to the visa. Instead, an application for an Australian partner visa, such as the 820 or 309 visa, needs to be made separately. It's more cost-effective to include your partner in the initial PR application or during the pending stage than to apply for a regular Australian partner visa at a later time. - Adding a Partner to 485 Visa: To add a partner to a 485 visa, they can apply through a subsequent entrant application. For eligibility, couples must be married, have a registered relationship, or have cohabited for at least 12 months. Being engaged is not sufficient.
